Mother Nature tore through the Village of Wappingers Falls Wednesday, totaling cars, uprooting trees and sending one "animal" flying off a roof.
Molly McDonough, of Village Creamery, said employees told her the cow figure that called the roof of the shop home for years was tossed to the ground and shattered during the storm.
"They were calling, saying the fence blew over. The cow flew off the roof," she said.
It now sits alone, waiting to meet its fate as people reminisce about the beloved icon online.
"Everybody that has walked by, or on Facebook or social media has commented about the poor cow," says McDonough. "I think what it is, is a lot of the young kids that come here. They are so fascinated by a cow being on the roof. It's the first thing they talk about."
McDonough says she's grateful for the outpouring of community support to help until power returns, even from other local businesses.
She says another cow will be calling the roof home soon.
