Temperatures in the Hudson Valley were in the 90s for a second consecutive day.
Rockland officials issued an air quality advisory and encouraged residents to limit strenuous outdoor activity.
The heat forced many seniors indoors. At the Chema senior center on Riverdale Avenue in Yonkers, there was bingo and air conditioning to take minds off the weather.
Those without access to air conditioners took shelter in the shade, but not everyone shied away from the heat. A bunch of ambitious Hastings hoop stars were out and about, as well as a grandfather and granddaughter misting the day away.
Jerry Solov, 86, refused to give up his late morning walk.

“I love the heat,” he says. “My bones are loose.”
News 12 meteorologists say the high temperatures are expected to drop by Wednesday.
