Two teenagers charged with a hate crime at the Palisades Mall on Black Friday last year avoided jail time in Rockland County Court today.
Chris Bujaj, of Tuckahoe, and Ardijan Mehaj, of Yonkers, received youthful offender status and five years' probation as part of a plea deal. This means they will have a clean record if they don't get into further trouble.
The 17-year-olds pleaded guilty in May to assault for beating five people while screaming anti-Semitic slurs.
Florend Gjevukaj, 18, of Yonkers, was also in court Tuesday, and pleaded guilty in connection with the assaults. His lawyer told the judge that Gjevukaj did not make any anti-Semitic remarks.
Gjevukaj is scheduled to be sentenced in December. Under the plea agreement, he is expected to get probation.
