A teen accused of killing an Iona College student pleaded not guilty in court today.
Stivinson Desir, 19, was arraigned at the Westchester County Courthouse in the murder of 19-year-old Brandon Lawrence.
Prosecutors say the teens attended a party together, and then drove to Lincoln Park in New Rochelle. Police say a fight broke out, but that the victim was not part of it. Prosecutors say Desir pulled out a gun and fired three times, with one shot fatally hitting Lawrence.
In court today, the prosecution said there are eyewitnesses to the shooting and that Desir has gang ties, but Desir's attorney says his client worked in the community and has no reputation for violence.
Desir was remanded without bail.
He has no prior convictions, but the judge called him a flight risk.
Prosecutors are still not saying what motivated Desir to pull the trigger.
