Police have arrested a teenager in connection with the violent robbery of a woman and her infant.
Alonzo Brown was taken into custody Tuesday morning. According to police, the 18-year-old was caught on surveillance video kicking a woman to the ground with her 2-month old child strapped to her chest.
It happened in broad daylight on East Tremont Avenue last Friday. The teen managed to get away with the victim's cellphone.
Brown spoke to reporters after being walked from the 48th Precinct. He said he was sorry for what he did and didn't know the woman had a baby until after she fell.
Both the mother and child were treated for minor injuries at Jacobi Medical Center. News 12 spoke with the victim, who says all she could think about after being kicked from behind was protecting her child.
Brown is facing a number of charges, including robbery, assault and criminal possession of stolen property. Officials say he has 11 prior arrests.
