The city of Yonkers and the Teamsters union have struck a deal for a new contract for nearly 500 city workers.

The workers have been without a new contract since 2008. The new contract has a 20 percent salary increase over the next 10 years. Union workers will also start kicking in twice as much as they currently do for health insurance.

The Yonkers firefighters and SEIU unions are still without a contract after six years. The firefighters' union president says he is optimistic they can strike a deal as well when they meet with the city in two weeks for their fourth mediation session.

Yonkers City Council still needs to approve the contract between the city and the Teamsters before it goes into effect.
