A Westchester community gathered Tuesday to take a public stand against sexual violence and to show support for survivors.

The Take Back the Night rally was held at Chase Park in Scarsdale, drawing advocates and residents for a march and speeches encouraging people to break the silence around abuse.

Event organizers say one in three women worldwide experience some form of sexual violence or intimate partner violence. Organizers also say one in six men experience sexual violence and that two in three transgender people are sexually assaulted.

Advocates marched in support of survivors and urged open conversation about trauma and its lasting impact.

Lauren Tetenbaum, a licensed clinical social worker, told the crowd that trauma can deeply affect a person’s life and that talking about these experiences is necessary.

Organizers say events like Take Back the Night are meant to raise awareness and show survivors they are not alone.

Anyone who is a victim of sexual violence or knows someone who is can contact the Westchester Medical Center SAVE Program for support.
