A high school senior is sharing her passion for reading in a unique way in Scarsdale.
All across town, in Hyatt Field Park, Crossway Field, Chase Park and Brite Avenue Park, book kiosks have popped up, encouraging residents to "take a book, leave a book."
The idea was brought about by Scarsdale High School Senior Danielle Kohn two years ago when her town library wasn't open and she couldn't find anywhere else to borrow books.
"The library in my town was closed for renovation, so we didn't really have such an accessible place to exchange books," says Kohn. "So, the concept of having these outdoor bookshelves where people could easily take a book leave a book seemed like a real good idea."
The kiosks were finally installed this week after being decorated by local artists with the hope of bring joy to the community -- something Kohn feels is important now more than ever.
"I think that even though two years is a really long time to be working in one project, that this is the best time for it to have possibly come to fruition because right now we are in such dark times and people really need something like bright and colorful to hold on to," she says.
There are plans for a fifth kiosk to be installed at the Library Pond in September.  At that time, the town also hopes to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony to acknowledge the new additions and thank those who contributed to the project.
