High gas prices likely have some New York drivers considering the switch to electric vehicles, but the colder weather could be a problem.

EV drivers say the range is severely dependent on the weather, and AAA set out to figure out exactly how much.

AAA found that in 20-degree temperatures, the range is cut by 39%.

In 95-degree temperatures, the range is cut by 8.5%.

The change is approximately the same for hybrids. There's been no significant improvement in how the vehicles handle cold in the past several years.

The most ideal temperature for both EVs and hybrids is said to be between 65 and 75 degrees.
