A Monsey stabbing case remains on hold as an Orange County man is still considered incompetent to stand trial.

Grafton Thomas faces state and federal charges in the stabbings of five people during a Hanukkah celebration in 2019. One of the victims, a rabbi, later died.

Earlier this month, the state Office of Mental Health found that the 43‑year‑old lacks the capacity to understand the proceedings against him or to assist in his own defense.

A Rockland judge signed the latest order of retention. His case is now adjourned until Jan. 2028.

Thomas is confined at the Mid‑Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Center in Orange County.
