A new reading program was introduced at the Riverfront Library in Yonkers.
The "Summer Reading Buddies" program was sponsored by the Jewish Council of Yonkers-Westchester Community Partners.
"All studies show kids lose a half a year of school if they don't read in the summer so they really lose a good portion of what they learned," says Janice Lubin Kirchner, of the Jewish Council of Yonkers.
About 250 volunteers, including Yonkers City Council President Liam McLaughlin and Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer, have dedicated their time and resources to give kids one-on-one attention as they tackle their summer reading lists.
