The safest place to be during sweltering heat is usually indoors, but that is not the case at some Bronx schools.
There is no air conditioning at P.S. 94, M.S. 135 and Cardinal Spellman. Some windows are opened slightly for ventilation, but many students say they are trying to learn in very uncomfortable temperatures. They say it is hard to concentrate when they are left sweating in their seats.
Parents at P.S. 94 say they want something done about the hot classrooms.
Meanwhile, school officials say some of the buildings are old and not equipped for the heat. A spokesman for Cardinal Spellman says while there is no long-term plan to install air conditioning, temporary measures are in place. According to officials, fans have been put in classrooms and students will be let out early.
