Students at Sarah Lawrence College "occupied" the president's office Monday to demand that college officials finalize a union contract with maintenance workers.
Students took over the administration offices Monday morning to demand that the school, which charges the highest tuition rates in the nation, spend money on maintenance workers, who say they are only looking for a fair wage.
While college officials say the activism is something that they celebrate, they note that it may not have any impact on their talks with the union, which have dragged on for 18 months.
Union members held their own protest on campus Monday, and say they were thrilled to have the support of the student body.
It is not clear how long the occupation will last, but students say they are prepared to stay until their demands are met. Classes end in less than two weeks.
Officials at the school and union members head back to the negotiating table next week.
