Officials in Mount Vernon gave students an up close look at what it is like to run the city yesterday.
The city hosted a job shadow day with youth from the Grace Baptist Church to give them a behind-the-scenes look at careers they're interested in pursuing.
The students who chose the fire department got an up-close-and-personal tour from Fire Commissioner Ernie Richardson into what it takes to put fires out and keep the community safe.
Commissioner Richardson says he is honored to give back to the kids of his city. "Being from Mount Vernon, I want to help these kids realize their dreams. To see kids who want to be firefighters is an awesome feeling."
Other students spent the day shadowing the Mayor Richard Thomas and DPW Commissioner Curtis Woods.
