Students returned to class at Sleepy Hollow High School this morning for the first time since the stabbing death of a teenager in the village.
Sleepy Hollow police say Berinzon Moronta, 16, has been charged with second-degree murder for killing 17-year-old Tahj Robinson during a confrontation on Friday night in Barnhart Park.
Robinson once attended Sleepy Hollow High School, but had recently been living with relatives in New Jersey. According to friends, Moronta and Robinson met up in the park and planned to fight, evidently over an issue involving a female relative. Robinson was stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead at Westchester Medical Center.
School officials made the decision to cancel this past weekend's homecoming football game and activities. There is no word as to when they will reschedule.
Grief counselors are at the high school today help students. News 12 has learned that friends asked students to wear black to honor Robinson.
News 12 has learned that many resident plan to attend tonight's village board meeting over concerns about violence in the park where the stabbing happened.
