Students at Maria Regina High School created unique T-shirts and hosted a bake sale to raise awareness and funds during Childhood Cancer Awareness month.
The event hit close to home for senior GinaMarie Napoli. At 3 years old, her sister Sophia was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.
"I felt that no one really knew what I was going through, and finally the Friends of Karen came and helped and it was just like the weight was lifted off my shoulders," she says.
Friends of Karen offers financial and emotional support to families of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
GinaMarie wanted to help the group, and says there's now some friendly competition among the grades to see who will raise the most money.
Sophia is now 7 years old and in remission.
