A swastika discovered at Carmel High School on Tuesday has students and parents seeking answers.
The symbol was found carved into the leg of the table at the school.
"I think it's very disrespectful and immature and it should never be done again,” said Carmel HS student Christian Smail.
This incident is another in a string to occur at the high school after a swastika and the words "Adolf Hitler" were found written on the school's tennis courts last month and before that when a TikTok video of students threatening to hang Black students and bring guns to school went viral last March.
"There' s a lot of things swept under the rug here regarding race and how people are treated because they're different and it just continues, and it starts from home,” said Carmel’s Abigail Lyons.
Carmel Central School District Interim Superintendent Joe McGrath said in a statement to parents that they are investigating the incident.
"We have reached out to local religious leaders and to the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center in White Plains,” his statement said. We will be using this as an opportunity to educate our students and community on the true meaning of these symbols."
