Some Pace University students are working with local lawmakers to help protect animals from circus abuse.
Students are teaming up with Assemblywoman Amy Paulin to write a bill banning circuses from bringing elephants into the Empire State.
Ringling Bros. stopped using elephants, but one Pace student says smaller circuses are still using and abusing elephants.
Lawmakers say they empathize with parents who want their children to see these massive animals, but say the Bronx Zoo would be a better option.
Paulin says they are still drafting the bill. Currently, they have not decided what the penalty would be if circuses illegally bring in elephants.
