28ds agoA mother and students made a video that they hope will help get their school reopened.
North Main Elementary has been open to students and staff as Orange County's only yellow zone school.
Schools in state yellow zones can remain open as long as they agree to regularly test students and staff for COVID-19. However, the Monroe-Woodbury school district said that these procedures weren’t feasible and instead decided to close Tuesday.
The elementary school is also close to COVID hot spot and red zone, Kiryas Joel.
Wendy Andreala has a fourth grader at North Main. She helped students make a video showing how they want to be back in school.
She hopes the video will make its way to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and get the school reopened.
"I hope the governor doesn't look at it as a building, but people, faces, children. I hope it makes a difference," Andreala says.
District Superintendent Elsie Rodriguez says the video is an example of teaching students to advocate for their beliefs, and she soon hopes to welcome students back to in-person instruction.
