Students at the Santa Maria School in Parkchester got a special visit from an NBA player Tuesday as part of a lesson in personal finance.
Washington Wizards player Drew Gooden, who has played in the NBA for 13 seasons, brought his wealth of life knowledge to the students as part of a community outreach program that hopes to teach kids the basics of money. About 50 kids piled into the school's gym for Price Waterhouse Cooper's "Earn Your Future" program.
The three-day camp teaches students financial basics like how to save, what it means to invest and why it's bad to waste your money. PWC says the program is year-round, and they plan to reach 18,000 students in the New York metropolitan area.
The program says its will be back in the Bronx in late July at P.S. 119.
