Students explore emergency services in Valhalla pilot program

More than 30 students from grades 5 through 12 took part in a new emergency services pilot program in Valhalla on Wednesday.
The event was hosted by the Westchester Department of Emergency Services and Ossining's "My Brother's Keeper."
Organizers say the goal is to give youth from underrepresented communities hands-on experience in the emergency services field.
Students learned how to put out fires, assist someone who is bleeding, and more.
"We want them to see first-hand what it's like to be an emergency responder through immersion and hopefully this sparks our next wave of emergency responders in Westchester County," said Joyce Cole of Westchester Emergency Services.
Organizers say they hope to expand the program to other towns and schools.
