Students and staff at schools in Somers will be back in class this morning after kids got an extra day of vacation yesterday because buses were vandalized.
School officials say nearly half of the fleet of 60 buses couldn't roll Monday because of slashed tires and broken windows. Fire extinguishers were also missing from inside the buses. The buses were parked at Somers High School, located at 120 Primrose St.
The bus company, Yonkers-based Royal Coach lines, did not comment on the incident, but a school district spokesperson told News 12 they sent in reinforcements like spare tires to get everything rolling in time for Tuesday pick-ups.
State police say they're interviewing people living nearby and looking at surveillance video. They're also not ruling this out as a student prank.
