That is a crazy statistic, but it probably does not surprise you! There is no great meteorological explanation for it, other than our weather pattern being more active. So, naturally, many of our recent weekend days have been impacted by at least some sort of wet weather. The more active weather pattern also helped to end the drought the lower Hudson Valley was in for so long!
While there have been at least a couple of showers around over the past 13 weekends -- on Saturday and/or Sunday – not all those weekends had steady rain. Some of those impacted weekends had only a couple of widely scattered showers.
In terms of rain that probably had an impact on your outdoor plans, six of the past 10 weekends had significant enough rain that affected outdoor activities more. Five of those 10 weekends had rain on Saturday while only two had rain on Sunday. This time of year, this type of streak of bad weekend weather days can really have a negative impact on local businesses that rely on nice, warm weather.
LOOKING AHEAD: I really wish I had better news, but it still looks like this coming Saturday will have at least scattered wet weather with a possible thunderstorm, too.
The News 12 Storm Watch Team will have more updates on this and all of your hyperlocal weather conditions.
With any luck, we will get a few completely dry weekends in the near future.
