A 9-year-old girl was shot by stray gunfire early Saturday morning on a street corner in Yonkers, police say. Police say the child was caught in the middle of an argument between two groups of men. The shooting happened near the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Morris Street in front of Saint Thomas Marthoma Church. The little girl was taken to Westchester Medical Center where she is recovering. Residents say they are shocked to hear a 9-year-old girl was shot, but they say they are used to hearing gunfire in their neighborhood. Many are wondering why a young girl was outside at 1:00 a.m. Police say child protective services is now involved. Meanwhile, investigators are looking at surveillance cameras in the area, hoping to get a look at the suspects.
