Illegal fireworks are plaguing the region, leaving thousands trying to sleep through what sounds like a war zone.
Mount Vernon says it is say cracking down on those who violate the law.
The illegal contraband is usually bought across state lines, They've not only waking up residents, but also exacerbating health issues for some.
The illegal fireworks that explode in the sky each night is sparking fear for residents like Carol Cunningham.
"I have a heart condition. I have a pacemaker, and it's not just fireworks, my kids call them ash can - it sounds like bombs," she says.
Some say the fireworks also sound like gunshots.
Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard took to Facebook to deliver a stern warning.

"We are not trying to over police the community, but I have directed my police department to go out, and if they find you, to confiscate it and we will be writing tickets," she said.
Mount Vernon police are asking that residents who call about the fireworks to provide specific information on where the illegal activity is happening.
It is also asking the community for patience as it is being inundated with calls.
