Thunderstorms on Tuesday were blamed for causing a number of accidents and power outages throughout the Hudson Valley.
Westchester County police say they have responded to numerous accidents throughout the day, including one car that hydroplaned and took out a 50-foot section of a guardrail on a Cross County Parkway on-ramp. No injuries were reported.
Wind and rain caused a tree to fall onto the southbound side of the Bronx River Parkway near 233rd Street during the morning commute. Two cars stopped short and got into a minor collision. While there were no serious injuries, there was a significant traffic backup on both sides of the parkway.
In Brewster, a tractor-trailer was reportedly speeding when the driver lost control and jack-knifed Tuesday morning. The driver suffered minor injuries.
The weather also caused power outages for dozens of people in Rockland County. The rain took down power lines on Lester Drive in Orangeburg at around 7:15 a.m. Crews fixed the problem, and power was restored a few hours later.
