A storm system will bring periods of moderate and heavy rain late Thursday night through Friday morning.
Street flooding and power outages are the main concerns through Friday morning.
A wind advisory has been issued to begin Thursday night at midnight through midnight Friday night. Sustained winds are expected to be from 20 to 30 mph. Wind gusts will be from 40 to 50 mph.
OVERNIGHT: Skies will be mostly clear, temperatures just below freezing, and wind gusts near 20 mph at times. Lows near 30 degrees.
THURSDAY: Sunshine early in the day, then an increase in clouds in the afternoon and evening. It will feel good and be less windy during the day. Highs in the upper 40s and lows in the 50s.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, becoming windy and rain developing. Wind gusts will be near 40 mph overnight. It will stay very mild. Lows in the upper 40s.
FRIDAY: Moderate rain likely and strong winds during the morning hours. Expecting period of heavy rain that could lead to minor street flooding. Winds will be sustained at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph.
Power outages will be possible from downed power lines as the storms move through. The rain will end Friday afternoon and the winds won't be as strong, but still gusty and sustained near 15-25 mph and gusts of 30-40 mph.
It will be quite chilly in the evening and cold at night. Highs in the mid-50s. Lows in the upper 20s. The record high at Islip is 55 degrees, set back in 2017.
