A period of rain is moving through Long Island right now. The South Shore beaches have seen the steadiest rain, but times of rain and even an isolated thunderstorm continue to be possible through around 7 p.m.
It will continue to be warm and very humid with temperatures mostly in the 70s.
Friday will be the hottest day this week with high temperatures near 90 degrees, paired with tropical-like humidity. This is only expected to last one day at this time, but plan on it feeling like the mid- to upper 90s on Friday. As a front approaches Long Island late in the day, this will bring a few showers and thunderstorms into the evening. At this time, no severe weather is expected locally, but the News 12 Storm Watch Team will monitor this for you throughout the week.
The weekend looks OK overall at the moment! Expect a mix of sun and clouds with high temperatures in the mid-80s for most of Long Island. While a shower cannot be ruled out on Saturday and skies will be cloudy, most of the weekend will be dry. Sunday is the pick of the weekend, with plenty of sun and a little less humidity.
Next week is dry and potentially very hot. Temperatures will be near 90 degrees on Tuesday and will likely be in the upper 80s to lower 90s on Wednesday and Thursday. The humidity is noticeable but less intense than this week. A pop-up storm is possible with the heat on Wednesday or Thursday.
