After another mild morning, Thursday will turn colder and windier across Long Island later this afternoon. Gusty west winds up to 30 mph will develop, making it feel much colder as temperatures fall through the day. By Thursday night into early Friday morning, wind chills may drop into the single digits. Friday stays cold and blustery, with afternoon highs only in the low to mid-30s, but it will feel closer to the 20s due to the wind. Saturday brings the next chance for precipitation, mainly as light rain or a rain-snow mix. Any amounts on Long Island look minimal, with little to no accumulation expected. On Sunday into Sunday night, snow chances have increased as a coastal storm may pass closer to the area. While it’s still too early to talk exact totals, eastern Long Island currently has the best chance to see some snow. Much colder air moves in starting Sunday night and lasts into midweek. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing during the day, with nighttime lows in the teens. Wind chills could drop into the single digits or near zero early next week, making it feel dangerously cold at times.
