A pesky upper area of low pressure is stuck, spinning it's wheels over the Ohio and Tennessee River Valleys. This system is the culprit for all the unsettled weather we've had over the weekend and more on the way into mid-week

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • A flood advisory has been issued across Dutchess and Ulster counties until 8 p.m. Tuesday night. Those counties could see about 2-4 inches of rain with isolated pockets of up to 5 inches. The flood advisory may be expanded to include other Hudson Valley counties if the forecast shows the heavier totals popping up southward. Batches of rain are going to move through the region into Tuesday morning. Along the way, expect lowered visibility at times and pockets of standing water.
  • Portions of southern Westchester County could be seeing standing water in several spots by the Tuesday morning commute. Take it easy on the roadways during that time. During the midday hours, there will be widespread showers with the threat of storms popping up west of I-87 for the afternoon to evening hours. Some of those storms could turn strong to severe, producing damaging wind gusts and small hail. That line of storms will swing from the west to the east of the Hudson River by 7-9 p.m. but weakening along the way.
  • Rain will linger into Wednesday morning, making the morning rush a sluggish one. A few scattered showers will move through for the midday hours, but drier weather will come in afterwards as this storm system pulls away from the region.
  • While there is a potential for showers Thursday, it is looking to not be too promising. Friday though, we may see another system move this way from the south, so it's a day we'll be watching closely.
  • For the weekend, Saturday has a shower potential early on then things slowly improve. Mother's Day is looking great! Good news for celebrating all the moms in your lives.
