HEAT ALERT: Dangerously hot, humid and hazy in The Bronx

Here’s what you need to know:
  • An EXTREME HEAT WARNING is in effect until 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect dangerously hot temperatures with heat indices between 100-10. Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the risk of heat related illnesses.
  • An AIR QUALITY ALERT is in effect 11 a.m. through 11 p.m. Pollution levels are elevated with AQI values over 100. People with preexisting respiratory issues, heart disease, asthma, the elderly and very young kids should avoid strenuous outdoor activities.
  • It's a very warm and muggy start with temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s.
  • Today will be day 1 of our first potential heat wave of the summer season. The stifling heat, hazy sky, uncomfortably humid conditions and poor air quality will take us throughout today. Highs will be in the upper 90s. Heat indices will be in the triple digits. Record highs are within reach today. The record is 96 degrees setback in 1888 and we’re forecasting a high of 97. Temperatures overnight will stay very warm in the low 80s.
  • Tomorrow will be the peak of the heat with highs near 100 degrees. Heat indices will be close to 110. If we hit 100, this will be a record and the first 100 day in 13 years.
  • The relentless extreme heat last into Wednesday with highs in the 90s. Feel like temperatures will be close to 97-100.
  • The sweltering heat ends on Thursday as chances of thunderstorms increase during the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will be in the upper 80s with heat indices in the low 90s. It's still too soon to tell if there's a risk of severe weather. Stay tuned for updates.
