A storm will move through the region on Monday, bringing strong south winds to the Hudson Valley and a few gusty thunderstorms. Damaging winds are possible along with localized flooding from the heavy rain. Temperatures will soar into the upper 50s and low 60s on Monday and then crash into the 30s for the middle of the week.

Wind-driven thunderstorms on Monday

A surge of warm air will arrive with a few gusty thunderstorms for early Monday morning commuters. Dress for rain, wind and temperatures in the 50s during.
Spotty pockets of rain are possible through the late morning and midday, but this will be your best chance for dry time. High temperatures may approach 60 degrees with wind gusts occasionally reaching 40 mph.
Heavy rain will return in the evening, mainly after 3 p.m., with thunderstorms possible. There's a risk of flash flooding on roads for the evening commute. Rain totals between 1 and 2 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible.
Furthermore, the National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory for parts of Westchester, Ulster, and Dutchess Counties beginning 2 p.m. Monday through 4 a.m. Tuesday. Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, along with gusts of 50 to 55 mph.
There is also a Marginal risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe and strong thunderstorms across the lower Hudson Valley. The western edge of Orange County is under a slight risk (level 2 out of 5).
Flash flood risk remains low, but is still on the table from these storms tomorrow. If you live in an area prone to minor flooding, be vigilant tomorrow for floodwaters near you as the storms move through.

Blast of cold on Tuesday for St. Patrick's Day

It's a dry and cold Tuesday for St. Patrick's Day with temperatures in the 30s for most of the day. Afternoon highs will briefly reach the low 40s, but winds will be gusty, reaching 25-30 mph, bringing wind chill values down to about 30 degrees.

The rest of the week remains chilly

Wednesday is the coldest day in the forecast and will be dry. Thursday and Friday are more seasonable and likely dry, but rain is expected to return for Saturday with mainly cloudy skies.
