WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
It is the type of night you don't want to be out and about in without the proper rain gear. Even taking the dog for one last walk for the day will involve even your pup having a rain jacket.
Expect steady showers to come along, with on-and-off moderate to heavy downpours for the first half of Thursday. The heaviest rain will be wrapping up by the midday. Scattered showers will linger for the rest of the day with steady winds of 20+ mph and scattered gusts 30+mph, especially along the shoreline of the Long Island Sound for Westchester County.
Thursday will be a colder than usual day. The average high temperature for this time of year is 71 degrees. Temperatures will struggle to get into the low 50s though.
It will feel more like late March instead of late May. We could see a new "cold high temperature" for Thursday. If temperatures do not get above 54 degrees for the day, we will set a record for the coldest daytime high temperature for the day. The forecast is 51 degrees.
Friday will see the system slowly pulling away, so some spotty showers will be possible from time to time. Otherwise, there will be mostly cloudy skies and cool breeze coming around.
Saturday will be more of the same for the morning hours, with a more visible improvement to come later in the day. Expect breezy winds and mostly cloudy skies for the afternoon hours.
Sunday is going to be looking and feeling great! With many people having Monday off for Memorial Day, there will be a lot of events, backyard BBQs and gatherings throughout the day Sunday. Expect a mix of sun and clouds, with a light wind and a mild feeling in the air.
For Memorial Day itself, there is good confidence in a mainly dry day. There is a small chance for showers that want to move in before the day is done. But I think most locations will be shower-free, with a mix of sun and clouds.
Rain is likely though for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
