WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The weather Christmas Eve through Christmas Day is decent, but snow will develop Friday after 4 p.m. and cause very dangerous travel conditions across the lower Hudson Valley.
I hope you have a great Christmas holiday if you are celebrating, but please make sure you check back with News 12 over the next couple of days for important updates on our next snowstorm that moves in Friday into Saturday.
Clouds are increasing overnight, but it is dry with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s. More clouds than sun overall with high temperatures in the 40s again are expected on Christmas Day. It will be a mostly dry day with a very small chance for a brief passing flurry or rain shower.
A winter storm watch has been issued for Friday evening for much of the lower Hudson Valley. Heavy snow is likely with the potential for travel impacts. A watch means conditions are favorable in the near future. A warning means they are definitely happening and more imminently. This watch can be converted to a "warning" as we get closer to the snow starting.
SNOW FORECAST: A general 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected. Stay with News 12 for updates on any snow total adjustments throughout the rest of this week.
Friday will start dry, but travel conditions will quickly deteriorate as the snow arrives in the evening. Snow will be heavy Friday evening through just after midnight and then taper off to periods of light to moderate snow into Saturday morning. Travel will be dangerous to nearly impossible Friday evening with potential snow rates of around 1 to 2 inches per hour at times. Please plan on avoiding travel during this time. This can easily affect the airlines as well.
If you don't have to travel and are already planning on being home, you will need to do a decent amount of cleaning up on Saturday. The snow weight will mostly be light, but please use caution still shoveling and cleaning up the snow on Saturday. If you want to have fun in the snow, of course there is room for that too.
