The Town of Stony Point opened up its Splash Pad in Lowland Park early.

It was set to open later this month, but was moved up because of the heat this week.

"Especially today with the holiday, the children are off from school. We thought it would be a great place for them to come, and have a safe place to cool off,” said Stony Point Supervisor Jim Monaghan on Wednesday.

Their community center is also open for people to cool off.

The town pool will reopen on June 29 when there is enough staff.

"The biggest challenge there is that a lot of our lifeguards are students. They're coming home from college or they're in the high school,” said Supervisor Monaghan. He added that it takes about a dozen total workers to make it happen. "The life guards can only stay on the stand a certain amount of time so we have to rotate them and make sure their sharp and keep it safe."

As a reminder, town facilities are to be used by town residents.
