While Orange County took the brunt of Sunday’s storms, numerous towns in Rockland County were also hit with heavy rains and flash floods.
Stony Point Town Supervisor Jim Monahan says heavy rains caused the Cedar Brook Stream to overflow, resulting in damage to areas near Route 210.
"The biggest challenge here in Stony Point, it seemed like the rain stayed here and it just hovered over Stony Point," said Monahan.
Monahan says approximately 20 people had to be evacuated from their homes in the area and numerous cars were flooded in low-lying parking lots.
Floodwater covered the play areas at Charles S. Eccher Park, also known as Lowland Park.
"This was unprecedented, I never seen anything like this," said New City's Bob Davan, whose car was totaled after water went to the top of his tire.
Crews have been working all morning to clear up the debris.
“Right now, we’re doing all the brush, all the trees, all the fences are down. We are picking up with machinery, men, it’s all hands-on deck right now to clean everything up,” says worker Dylan Raymond.
Monaghan does not know the financial toll caused by the storm yet.
