News 12 and Stony Brook University are teaming up to help hurricane victims.
Monday was the first day of The Food Drive for Hurricane Relief in Florida.
Members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Stony Brook University are organizing the effort to collect non-perishable food for those impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton. "The message that we have at Stony Brook and for SAAC is to always try and help those in need, because you never know what someone's going through." said Luciana Setteducate.
"We're not just student-athletes, we're students first...students love to participate in clubs, organizations on campus and we're showing that we have the same thing here for students and students athletes to participate in, especially with donations like these." said Chayce Chalmers.
Collection bins will be set up in the basketball arena lobby, the Pritchard gymnasium lobby and during home football games at gates two and six at the stadium.
According to the university, "Donors who participate in the Food Drive will receive a sense of satisfaction knowing that they are helping to make a difference in the lives of those affected by recent Hurricanes. Additionally, fan donations get ONE FREE TICKET at the upcoming Football and Men’s & Women’s basketball games."
