A Yonkers police sergeant was seriously injured overnight after two
suspects crashed their stolen SUV into his police vehicle.
Authorities
say an unmarked Yonkers patrol unit was in the area of Central Avenue in
response to recent commercial burglaries when they saw a stolen white SUV
loitering in the area around 2 a.m.
The officer tried to pull
the SUV over, but the suspects sped onto the New
York State Thruway before crashing into a marked Yonkers police vehicle.
The suspects ran off onto
the service road.
The police sergeant inside
had to be extricated and was taken to a hospital with
serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
