The victim of a tragic Fourth of July drowning on the Jersey Shore has been identified as the stepson of the Yonkers schools superintendent.
John Crimmins, 22, was swimming with friends Saturday off the coast of Bay Head, New Jersey, when he disappeared in the surf. Lifeguards brought him to the shore and tried to perform CPR, but he never regained consciousness.
In a statement, Yonkers Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Yazurlo and his family asked for privacy. The statement said in part, "Our hearts are heavy, we will miss John."
An investigation into the drowning is underway.
Funeral arrangements for Crimmins have not yet been finalized.
