Parishioners at a Briarcliff Manor church are disheartened after a statue out front was vandalized.

Leaders with St. Theresa's Church on Pleasantville Road think the vandalism happened sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday.

They say it appears some kind of material similar to tar was poured over it. Also, one of the hands was broken.

They were able to get most of the material off.

However, people with the church say it's upsetting.

"It filled me with great sadness, whoever the person is or people that did this, we pray for their conversion, we pray that they may come to know Christ," says Father Paul Waddell.
