An investigation is underway after a trooper-involved shooting in Dutchess County left a man dead.
The shooting happened Tuesday at the Coyote Flaco Mexican restaurant in Stanfordville, leaving 41-year-old Jaimie Lopez dead.
State police say they received a call around 11 a.m. about a drunken man armed with a knife, threatening a woman at the restaurant.
The first trooper on the scene found Lopez next to a car occupied by the woman.
Investigators say a second trooper, identified as Kevin Wolensky, arrived shortly afterwards and tried to communicate with Lopez.
According to state police, Lopez failed to follow instructions.  They say when Lopez made an aggressive movement toward Wolensky, the trooper fired two shots at him. Lopez was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
State police K-9 units were on the scene as the restaurant and liquor store next to it remain roped off with crime-scene tape.
Police say the woman in the vehicle was not injured.
