Two local lawmakers are pushing legislation that could ease costs for holiday travelers.

State Senators Jeffrey Klein and Eric Adams are proposing a holiday driver relief package that would eliminate tolls on major holidays. Klein says it's a shame that finances will prevent families from enjoying their time off together this season.

"That is very disturbing when you hear that so many people aren't going out with their families and taking day trips and road trips in their car because they are so concerned about high tolls and high gas prices," he says.

The proposal calls for toll eliminations on the most heavily traveled holidays, including Labor Day, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. The pair is also hoping to implement a seasonal tax rebate of $100 for the borough's drivers.

The Legislature's session comes to a close at the end of June. Klein says if the package is approved, motorists could see its impact as soon as July 4.
