A high-profile state senator was found guilty of felony corruption charges at White Plains Federal Court Wednesday.
Sen. Thomas Libous of Binghampton, who was the second most powerful Republican in the state, was convicted by a federal jury on charges that he lied to federal investigators.
The conviction results in his automatic removal from office.
Federal prosecutors say Libous delivered "lie after lie" to the FBI during an investigation into ongoing corruption in Albany.
Prosecutors also say Libous lied to FBI agents about obtaining a job for his son at the Westchester law firm of the since-disgraced and disbarred attorney, Anthony Mangone.
The conviction comes six months after Libous' son, Matthew, was convicted of underreporting his income on federal tax returns from 2007 to 2009.
The elder Libous, who is battling terminal prostate cancer, is now facing up to five years in prison.
