New York State Police say two troopers fatally shot a woman overnight in the Town of Deerpark after responding to a domestic incident.

According to information released by state police, the troopers arrived at a home on Forrest Drive around 2:30 a.m. for a reported domestic incident involving a knife.

“Troopers located a male victim on the front porch who reported that a female suspect inside the residence was armed with a knife and a firearm. Shortly after, the female exited the home and pointed what appeared to be a black handgun at responding troopers. In response to the immediate threat, two troopers discharged their duty weapons, striking the suspect.”

The suspect was later pronounced dead at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She has been identified as Nancy Loftus, 69, of Port Jervis. A pellet gun was recovered from the scene, police say.

State police say the male victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene.

Details surrounding what sparked the incident and the identities of those involved were not immediately available.
