The debate continued in Mount Pleasant Tuesday over the proper way to respond to a tragedy on the tracks.

The state is looking at closing two railroad crossings in Valhalla, after the 2015 incident when a Metro-North train hit an SUV at the Commerce Street Railroad Crossing, killing six people.

Officials say it's unclear why 49-year-old Ellen Brody drove onto the tracks, despite warning signs.

The NTSB ruled the cause driver error, but ever since, Brody's husband and other residents have called for the crossing to be closed.

They also want to close the railroad crossing on Cleveland Street, about a mile down, citing safety concerns.

The New York State DOT and MTA are expected to make a recommendation to close both railroad crossings at a town board meeting on Oct. 24. That's when residents will have a chance to make their voices heard before a decision is made.
