A report from the state Department of Health shows that COVID-19 has claimed thousands of lives in nursing homes statewide.
The latest numbers show that there were 213 nursing home deaths in Westchester County, 68 deaths in Orange County and 29 deaths in Rockland County.
Officials say those numbers are expected to grow among the vulnerable population. The state Department of Health has created a website for those with complaints or concerns about loved ones in nursing care facilities.
As doctors point to aging and declining immunity, Gov. Andrew Cuomo addressed the growing challenges faced by nursing home residents and staff.

"Nursing homes are the single biggest fear in all of this. Vulnerable people in one place, it is the feeding frenzy for this virus," he said.
