A scathing audit from the state comptroller?s office found nothing criminal, but called deals made by the Yonkers Industrial Development Agency (IDA) ?inappropriate.? Comptroller Alan Hevesi says his office found unjustified invoices and double billing by the Yonkers IDA in its attempts to get a minor-league baseball stadium built downtown. Mayor Phil Amicone (R-Yonkers) responded by calling the audit ?just plain wrong.? At the heart of the issue is some $700,000 in bills from the Yonkers IDA that were apparently paid twice by the city and school district, and then loaned to the stadium project. The 20-page document found that the city misused taxpayer money when it shuffled money from the Yonkers Board of Education to the city?s Industrial Development Agency and then to the for-profit company hoping to build the baseball stadium.
