Westchester Medical Center will soon no longer have use of its STAT Flight helicopter.
The helicopters are being grounded and the service will instead be provided from airports in Sullivan and Ulster counties. Local officials have expressed concern the new policy could put patients in danger.
In the past, the STAT Flight helicopter averaged about 40 calls a month - the majority of which came from outside of Westchester. That number had recently been cut in half.
