Stamford event raises gun violence awareness

Dozens of community leaders, students and state officials came together Friday in Stamford to wear orange to raise gun violence awareness.
They gathered at the Stamford Government Center to honor those killed by gun violence.
Stamford Mayor David Martin proclaimed June 2 as National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Gun violence prevention advocates took to the podium to demand change in gun safety laws.
The event kicked off #WearOrange activities happening across Connecticut.
Rep. Jim Himes said Friday that more than 96 Americans are killed by gun violence daily. He said people must get out and vote and demand more from their elected officials.
