An annual reading of the Declaration of Independence on Tuesday drew dozens of people to Mount Vernon.
People crowded the lawn on the grounds of the national historic site at St. Paul's Church, which was used as a military field hospital during the American Revolution.
They celebrated the American spirit with a wreath-laying ceremony, song in the form of "Yankee Doodle" and a reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Revolutionary War soldiers are buried in the cemetery at St. Paul's Church.
