St. Mary's Parish in Yonkers will merge with St. Peter-St. Denis this Sunday, despite months of community pushback.
The Archdiocese of New York announced in December that St. Mary's needed $10 million in repairs.
Church leadership suggested merging with another parish as a solution, but parishioners said they didn't expect it to happen so soon.
Earlier this year, the Yonkers City Council passed a resolution urging the Archdiocese to save the church. The city has yet to comment on the merger.
An Archdiocese spokesperson said Mass will still be held at St. Mary's on Sundays.
