The Saint Charles AME Zion Church in Piermont celebrated Juneteenth Friday, marking the new federal holiday.
The community came together outside the library to celebrate the end of slavery.
"My hope is they see us celebrating Black lives … Black people today," said Rev. Dr. Brandon McLauchlin.
Several attendees told News 12 they believe more work needs to be done and they hope this is just the beginning.
